Govt Affirms Commitment to Free Press: Info Minister Stresses Support for PFUJ

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar emphasized the importance of independent journalism as a cornerstone of democracy, asserting that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government is steadfast in its commitment to freedom of expression.

According to Radio Pakistan, in a congratulatory message to the newly elected office bearers of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Minister Tarar extended his congratulations to Afzal Butt for his election as President, Arshad Ansari as Secretary General, and Saeed Jan as Finance Secretary. He highlighted that the PFUJ has consistently advocated for journalists’ rights and that the election of its new leadership reflects their dedication and commitment to the journalistic community.

Minister Tarar expressed optimism that the PFUJ will maintain its proactive role in safeguarding journalists’ rights and promoting responsible journalism. He reiterated that addressing the challenges journalists face remains a top priority for the current government.
