Govt Commits to Modernising National Ports, Achieves Historic Cargo Handling Milestone

Islamabad: Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced that the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has achieved the highest annual cargo handling volume in its one hundred and thirty-eight-year history. In a statement, he revealed that KPT surpassed its previous all-time cargo handling record of fifty-four point six eight five million tonnes during the current financial year.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister attributed this significant achievement to enhanced operational efficiency, effective management, and increased port capacity. He emphasized the importance of these factors in facilitating such a historic milestone for KPT.

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernising all national ports. He highlighted the government’s focus on attracting investment and promoting trade activities, which are seen as crucial steps to support economic growth. The Minister’s statement underscores the strategic importance of improving port infrastructure and operations in boosting the nation’s economy.
