Islamabad: Minister for Economic Affairs and Establishment Division Senator Ahad Khan Cheema has reiterated the government’s commitment to making public infrastructure projects cost-effective and highly durable. He was chairing a meeting to oversee major regulatory, operational, and financial reforms in the construction sector in Islamabad today.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister announced that the government will soon extend the standard Defect Liability Period for public development projects from the current one year to three years, with a clear roadmap to further extend it to five years. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that civil infrastructure does not deteriorate shortly after completion.
The meeting was informed that the government is considering a comprehensive construction industry development package. This includes the establishment of a Construction Industry Development Board, evaluation of a dedicated Construction Development Bank, rationalization of import and export policies, and targeted tax reforms for the construction sector.
