Govt Promoting Clean, Green Energy Initiatives in Pakistan: Awais

Islamabad: Minister for Power Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has announced that the government is actively promoting clean and green energy, with significant initiatives underway to expand renewable energy across the country. He shared these insights during a panel discussion at the Pakistan Business Council’s 2025 Dialogue in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister highlighted the vast opportunities within Pakistan’s energy sector, noting the increasing share of alternative energy sources. He stated that Pakistan is generating 19,000 megawatts of solar power, placing the country among the fastest-growing solar energy markets globally.

The Minister also mentioned that amendments to net-metering regulations are being prepared. The government plans to privatize distribution companies and enable direct power trade in the market. Awais Leghari reiterated the government’s commitment to providing maximum relief to the public.

He further added that the ministry has initiated an effective review process for regulatory decisions to bolster governance, transparency, and financial discipline in the power sector.
