Govt to Incentivize Domestic Battery Storage Manufacturing

Islamabad: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has announced that a policy will soon be finalized to promote indigenous manufacturing of battery energy storage systems in Pakistan. Addressing the Solar Storage Flexibility 2026 Conference in Islamabad today, he highlighted the initiative developed by the Ministry of Industries and Production to incentivize local production of battery systems.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister emphasized the importance of developing domestic expertise in designing and integrating battery energy storage systems rather than relying on imported solutions. He underscored the vital role universities must play in producing skilled human resources capable of servicing, maintaining, and eventually manufacturing battery systems locally.

Sardar Awais Leghari also shared that Pakistan’s electricity mix currently derives nearly fifty-five percent of its generation from clean energy sources. The government’s ambitious target is to increase the share of clean energy to ninety percent by 2035.
