Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare and capacity building of journalists. He made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the National Press Club’s website in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, Attaullah Tarar emphasized the pivotal role of the National Press Club within the Islamabad media fraternity, describing the launch of its website as a significant step towards digitalization. He instructed the relevant authorities to expedite the establishment of a digital lab at the club, underscoring the government’s push towards embracing digital advancements.
The Minister assured that the government is working to ensure the timely payment of outstanding dues to television channels and stressed the responsibility of media organizations to guarantee prompt salary payments to journalists. In a move to further support journalists, he announced plans to introduce health cards and address housing issues in collaboration with the media community.
Attaullah Tarar also highlighted the importance of digital content creation in today’s media landscape and revealed plans for short training courses to enhance journalists’ professional capabilities. A policy is being formulated to tackle the financial challenges faced by journalists and media organizations, aiming to strengthen the country’s media sector.
The Minister concluded by stating that the promotion of electronic and print media is a collective responsibility of both the government and journalists, emphasizing the need for mutual cooperation in this endeavor.
