Habib Bank donates Rs10 million to Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled

Lahore, May 13, 2014 (PPI-OT): Habib Bank of Pakistan has donated Rs.10 million to the Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) for its state-of-the-art Vocational Education and Training Centre.

President Habib Bank of Pakistan Noman K. Dar handed over the cheque to the LABARD President and MNA Pervez Malik in the presence of LABARD SVP Mian Nusratuddin, Joint Secretary Saeed Khan, Muhammad Abbas Khan, Bushra Aitzaz Ahsan, Ahmer Malik and other members of Governing Body.

The grant to LABARD is a continuation of HBL’s initiatives in Pakistan to support the cause of rehabilitation of disabled. The grant will enable LABARD to build key vocational education and training labs such as mechanical, IT, refrigeration, stitching and other trade labs. The grant will also be used towards the provision of marketing and media management of the LABARD Vocationtional projects.

Expressing his views about this latest initiative, President Habib Bank of Pakistan Noman K. Dar said that “At the HBL, we recognize that we cannot have a healthy and growing business unless the communities we serve are healthy and sustainable.

We are committed to improving the quality of life in the communities where we do business and have realigned our community investment priorities to be reflective of and responsive to the global and local nature of our business. We are committed towards LABARD’s initiative and will work hands-on with the management to this project more effective.”

While speaking on the occasion, LABARD President Pervez Malik and Joint Secretary Saeed Khan paid rich tributes to the Habib Bank of Pakistan for providing financial aid to LABARD.

They said that all segments of society should play their due role so that the stigma of disability could be removed from the face of Pakistani society. He said that it is religious and moral duty of the whole private sector to ensure jobs to the disabled persons so that they could enjoy the status equal to other members of the society.

They said that the LABARD has not only been organising camps in various parts of the City for the registration of disabled persons but is also focusing on building confidence in all such people who are suffering due to some disability so that they could be able to face all challenges boldly.

They informed the participants that the LABARD Qarz-e-Hasna scheme is giving encouraging results and a large number of disabled persons are running their small businesses successfully.

Pervez Malik and Saeed Khan said that the Lahore Businessmen Association for Disabled persons has extended training to thousands of disabled persons so far and it has decided to extend the scope of these trainings in coming days.
