Heavy Military-Style Deployment Observed in Rajouri and Poonch Ahead of Polling

Jammu, In anticipation of the upcoming sixth phase of polling on May 25, an extensive deployment of Indian paramilitary forces has been reported in the Rajouri and Poonch districts of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, transforming the region into what resembles a military operation rather than a democratic electoral process.

According to Kashmir Media Service, nearly 200 additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Armed Police have been dispatched to the two districts, evenly distributed with about 100 companies each. This substantial increase in military presence is in addition to the already stationed forces, significantly intensifying the security measures in the area.

The paramilitary forces have been redeployed from Baramulla Parliamentary constituency where they were stationed for the fifth phase of polling. They are currently involved in extensive cordon and search operations in the Pir Panjal forests, with more troops expected to arrive before Wednesday night. This level of militarization is unprecedented for what are supposed to be civilian elections, reflecting the ongoing tensions and the complex security dynamics in the region.

Rajouri and Poonch, which are part of the larger Islamabad-Poonch-Rajouri Parliamentary constituency, include eight Assembly segments. This extraordinary security setup underscores the volatile situation in these districts, often seen more as a conflict zone than electoral districts.
