Heavy Rainfall Threatens Urban Flooding in Parts of Country

Rawalpindi: Heavy rainfall is expected in various areas of the country over the next twenty-four hours, posing a risk of urban flooding and potential overflow in streams.

According to Radio Pakistan, various districts in Punjab, including Lahore, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Hafizabad, are likely to experience thunderstorms and heavy rain in the next twelve hours.

Rawalpindi and Islamabad are expected to witness intermittent rainfall over the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Heavy downpours may cause a rise in water levels in Nullah Lai, posing a risk of flooding in low-lying areas nearby. Residents living near Nullah Lai and in vulnerable low-lying areas have been advised to prepare for immediate evacuation in case of warning sirens and to cooperate with the relevant authorities.

NDMA and concerned departments are ensuring timely preventive measures. NDMA has directed all relevant institutions to ensure proactive preparedness to handle any potential emergency situation. People have been advised to avoid crossing streams, flooded roads, and bridges during high water levels.
