Heavy Snowfall Shuts Down Mughal Road in IIOJK

Jammu: Heavy snowfall blanketed the mountainous regions of Rajouri and Poonch districts of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, further intensifying the cold wave sweeping across the area.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the continued slippery conditions and new snow accumulation on the Mughal Road have delayed hopes of an early reopening. Authorities estimate that it may take several more days before traffic can resume.

The sudden shift in weather brought heavy snowfall, which began in the morning and has persisted, plunging temperatures and worsening conditions in both districts. The Mughal Road, a crucial link in the region, has been shut since December 28.

Meanwhile, the strategic Srinagar-Leh Highway was temporarily closed for traffic. “It was snowing in Sonamarg and Zojila, the traffic from both Sonamarg and Kargil sides have been stopped, and any further decision to allow traffic on the road will be subjected to improvement in weather conditions,” a traffic police official told the media.
