Hindutva Outfit Launches Economic Boycott of Muslim Vendors in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: A Hindutva outfit, Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti, has launched a campaign targeting Muslim vendors in Himachal Pradesh, calling for their economic boycott. The campaign is focused on areas of Shimla, Sanjauli, and other parts of the state, with specific efforts aimed at distinguishing between Hindu and Muslim vegetable vendors.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti has started installing boards labelled “Sanatan Sabziwala” (Sanatan Vegetable Vendor) on stalls operated by Hindu vendors as part of its strategy to promote Hindu businesses. The campaign, which began on October 9, specifically targets Muslim vendors, including those identified as Rohingya Muslims.

A video circulating on social media shows members of the group raiding market stalls and installing these boards while urging the local community to refrain from purchasing from Muslim vendors. The group has framed the campaign as an effort to support local Hindu-owned businesses.

In recent weeks, Himachal Pradesh has witnessed increased anti-Muslim protests and hate speeches, particularly in BJP-ruled districts like Shimla, Sanjauli, and Mandi. The campaign comes amid growing communal tensions in the region, where demands for the demolition of the Sanjauli mosque and the verification of Muslims, labeled as “outsiders,” have intensified.
