Human Rights Committee Calls for Strict Measures Against Violations

Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Human Rights has raised alarms over severe human rights violations in recent years, advocating for stringent actions by law enforcement agencies to curb such violence, particularly against political victimization. The committee underscored the necessity for effective legislation to protect parliamentarians’ rights, noting that politicians often face disrepute through unlawful cases during regime changes.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the committee also voiced concerns over the increasing incidents of abuse against women and children in the country. It instructed the Ministry of Human Rights to provide comprehensive details of female and child prisoners at its next meeting. Furthermore, the committee plans to visit mahkama-e-jail-khaana-jaat with media representatives to observe the conditions faced by prisoners firsthand.

The committee postponed the briefing from the Ministry of Human Rights and its associated departments to the next meeting due to the absence of the concerned Minister and Secretary. Attendees of the meeting included Members of National Assembly Mr. Danyal Chaudhary, Mr. Rasheed Ahmad Khan, Ms. Zeb Jaffar, and several others, with Ms. Zartaj Gul participating via video link.
