Bhopal: A Mirage 2000 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed near Shivpuri during a routine training mission, with both pilots ejecting safely.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the incident involved a twin-seater variant of the aircraft. The pilots managed to eject safely before the jet went down.
Indian Defence officials have confirmed that a Court of Inquiry has been initiated to investigate the cause of the crash. The wreckage was found engulfed in flames, with thick smoke visible from the debris. The Mirage 2000, developed by Dassault Aviation of France, has been operational since 1978.
This crash follows a similar incident in November 2024, when a MiG-29 fighter jet crashed near Agra. The pilot in that incident also ejected safely. Past crashes involving Mirage aircraft have raised concerns about their condition, with some referring to them as “flying coffins.”
