Islamabad: Nasir Mansoor Qureshi, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), has urged Pakistan’s diplomatic corps and trade officials to initiate an aggressive trade diplomacy campaign. This effort aims to promote the nation’s exports effectively and attract foreign investment to boost economic recovery.
According to Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry announcement issued on 29 October 2024, Qureshi highlighted the ambitious target set by Pakistan to increase its exports to $100 billion by 2030 as outlined in Vision 2030. Achieving this goal heavily depends on the proactive engagement of Pakistani embassies and consulates worldwide, which are expected to act as dynamic sales promoters.
Qureshi emphasized the need to focus on key economic sectors such as IT, IT services, value-added agricultural products, minerals, chemicals, and skilled labor exportation. He noted that these sectors hold substantial potential to propel economic growth, enhance exports, and ultimately strengthen Pakistan’s economy. By concentrating on these areas, Pakistan aims to diversify its export base, increase foreign exchange reserves, create job opportunities, and stimulate economic recovery with effective support from the government and relevant stakeholders.
Furthermore, Qureshi underscored the importance of market research to identify demand and trends. He stressed that implementing quality control measures is crucial to ensure consistency and reliability of exports. Additionally, he mentioned that trade agreements like Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs) could expand market access significantly.
The ICCI President also reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to enhancing economic growth by developing linkages with chambers of commerce in friendly countries, promoting global collaborations, and facilitating knowledge sharing. The ICCI plans to host various events such as seminars, business opportunity conferences, and tourism summits to foster business-to-business connections and promote Pakistan’s export potential.
