ICT Exports Surge by 28%: NA Informed

Islamabad: The National Assembly was informed of a significant 28% rise in Information and Computer Technology (ICT) exports over the first half of the current fiscal year, marking a notable development in the country’s tech sector.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Minister of State for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, highlighted this growth during the Question Hour. She attributed the surge to increased internet usage and improved speed across the nation.

Khawaja also noted that virtual private networks and applications such as WhatsApp remain fully operational. Efforts are ongoing to enhance the overall internet experience, indicating a strategic focus on digital infrastructure.

In a separate briefing, Ahmad Atteeq Anwer, the Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change, discussed the Up-scaling of Green Pakistan Programme. The initiative aims to plant 3.29 billion trees by 2028, with 2.2 billion already planted since 2019.

Anwer mentioned annual nationwide plantation campaigns occur each spring and monsoon, reflecting a sustained commitment to environmental conservation.

The government is also considering a new climate finance governance framework to facilitate better access to climate funding, according to the Parliamentary Secretary.

The session of the House concluded with an adjournment until the upcoming Monday at 5 p.m.
