IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar Addresses Cochlear Implant Recovery for Police Employees’ Children

Lahore: Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, recently highlighted the significant progress and ongoing support for children of police employees recovering from cochlear implant surgeries. In a heartfelt address at the Central Police Office, in collaboration with a private hospital, Dr. Anwar emphasized the critical role of cochlear implants in restoring normal life to children affected by hearing and speech impairments.

According to Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar addressed police employees and their children, who are benefiting from the surgeries, during a consultation session aimed at reinforcing the importance of post-surgery care and therapy. Dr. Anwar noted that the Punjab Police Welfare Branch has successfully facilitated cochlear implant surgeries for 18 children of their employees, with additional cases currently being processed.

The event included insightful lectures from medical experts on the crucial role of cochlear implant surgery and subsequent speech therapy in the rehabilitation process. Professor Dr. Imran Saeed from the collaborating private hospital provided detailed explanations on the impact of speech therapy in fully restoring hearing and speech capabilities. Dr. Saeed shared the alarming statistic that 10 million people in Pakistan suffer from hearing impairment and highlighted that cochlear implant surgery could restore up to 99% of hearing in affected children.

The consultation session also marked the attendance of various senior officers from Punjab Police, including DIG Welfare and Finance and AIG Welfare, who were present to support the initiative. The session concluded with Additional IG Welfare and Finance Riaz Nazir Gara presenting commemorative shields to the participating doctors and medical experts from the private hospital, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to the welfare of police employees’ families.
