Lahore, January 17, 2013 (PPI-OT): In a giant leap towards early rehabilitation of the disabled persons, the LABARD Thursday announced to give Rs 2000 stipend to all the trainees at its vocational center under TVET Reform Support Programme.
The Programme is co-financed by European Union, Kingdom of Netherlands and Federal Republic of Germany and is being implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).
This was stated by the LABARD President MNA Pervaiz Malik while addressing a Press Conference here at LCCI on Thursday. LCCI President farooq Iftikhar, Secretary Special Education Abdullah Sumbal, LCCI Vice President Mian Abuzar Shad, Vice President LABARD Bushra Aitzaz, Information Secretary LABARD Ahmer Malik and Ahmad Shafiq also spoke on the occasion.
Appreciating the TVET Reform Support Programme, Pervaiz Malik said that it would help the disabled to get training in the field of their choice with financial support. He said that fifteen new market demand-based courses had been introduced at LABARD Vocational Training Centre.
These courses include: Computer Basic, Computer Basic for Visually Impaired (JAWS), Computer Advanced, Practical Accounting (For B.Com plus), Office Assistant/Secretarial Course (For B.A. Plus), Mobile Repairing Course, English – Spoken and Written (For Matric Plus trainees), Photo-editing with Adobe, Video Editing with Adobe Premier, Cooking, Stitching – Industrial, Stitching – Domestic, Photocopy and Bookbinding, Urdu – Spoken and Written (for illiterate trainees), Work Ethics and Etiquettes for all Trainees. He said that rehabilitation of disabled persons is a sacred job and everybody should come forward to play his role. He said that the LABARD was getting a very good response from the registration camps it was holding at Union council level.
LABARD President said that in the developed world, the disabled persons are always given a special treatment, they are provided with every possible facility so that they could use their abilities for the well-being of society and now the situation in Pakistan was also taking a positive turn and a large number of disabled persons are running their own businesses with the help of LABARD.
In his address, the LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar paid rich tributes to LABARD office-bearers for spending their time and energies for this noble cause. He said that LABARD is a feather in LCCI cap and the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry would leave no stone unturned in ensuring proper assistance to the LABARD. He said that all the businessmen should at least accommodate one disabled person in his factory or office to curtail the miseries of the society.
Secretary Special Education Abdullah Sumbal in his address threw light on Punjab government initiatives aimed at rehabilitation of disabled persons. He said that enhancement in quota in government jobs for disabled persons is well on way and hopefully it would be three per cent very soon instead of existing two per cent. He promised maximum Punjab government cooperation to the LABARD.
