India Concedes to Key Demands in Ladakh Amid Ongoing Protests

New Delhi: Following months of protests, India has agreed to address some key demands of the Ladakh region in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including reserving 95% of government jobs for locals and recognizing Urdu and Bhoti as official languages.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a meeting held in New Delhi between Ladakh’s leadership and an Indian government panel, led by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, resulted in progress on demands such as statehood for Ladakh, constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule, and establishing a Ladakh Public Service Commission.

The Indian government also committed to providing 33% reservation for women in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils (LAHDC) of Leh and Kargil. Additionally, vacant posts in essential sectors like medicine and engineering will be referred to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for immediate action.
