Indian CRPF Officer Commits Suicide in Reasi

Jammu: An Assistant Sub-Inspector of India’s Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has taken his own life in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the 55-year-old officer, Rajnath Prasad, died by suicide using his service rifle inside a temporary CRPF picket in the Katra area. The incident occurred along the Tarakote route, which is frequented by pilgrims on their way to the Vaishno Devi shrine.

Prasad, who hailed from Bihar, India, shot himself in the chest. This incident contributes to a grim statistic, marking the 617th such death among Indian troops and police personnel in the region since January 2007.
