Islamabad: The Indian media is facing growing criticism over its perceived alignment with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ideological parent, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), especially in its coverage of Pakistan and the Kashmir issue.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, critics argue that Indian media outlets have increasingly acted as mouthpieces for the BJP-RSS regime, disseminating biased narratives, disinformation, and fake news. The media is accused of distorting facts and constructing false narratives that portray Pakistan as an adversary, while sidelining the voices of Kashmiris and the international aspects of the Kashmir dispute.
Critics also contend that the Indian media’s reporting aligns closely with the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, which has faced accusations of undermining democratic norms and promoting authoritarianism. Journalists and television anchors in India are often perceived as echoing the government’s official line, challenging the distinction between objective journalism and propaganda.
The connection between Indian media outlets and the RSS’s right-wing ideology has been acknowledged by various observers. Many outlets are seen as advancing the Hindutva ideology, which aims to establish Hindu dominance and marginalize religious minorities, particularly Muslims.
Furthermore, the role of Indian media in spreading hate and inciting violence has drawn widespread condemnation. The media has been accused of glorifying Modi’s policies and rhetoric, creating an environment where hate speech, Islamophobia, and anti-Pakistan sentiments proliferate. This environment is said to contribute to domestic unrest and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
Experts warn that the unchecked influence of Indian media, when aligned with the policies of the RSS and BJP, poses a substantial threat to regional peace and stability. They caution that such media practices undermine the pursuit of justice for the people of Kashmir.
