Indian police arrest TeH leader in IOK

Srinagar, January 14, 2017 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, Indian police have arrested Tehreek-e-Hurriyet leader, Ashiq Hussain Narchoor, in Islamabad district.

The police arrested Ashiq Hussain Narchoor, who is the Tehsil President of TeH led by Syed Ali Gilani. The police were after him for his leading role in organizing massive anti-India demonstrations in the ongoing mass uprising.

Reports said that he was instrumental in organizing and running a free medical camp in district hospital Islamabad for the injured persons during the uprising, which was triggered by the extrajudicial killing of popular youth leader, Burhan Wani, on July 8, 2016.

The police in civvies arrested him while he was coming out from the Baitul Muqaram mosque at General Bus Stand in Islamabad after offering Friday prayers. He was evading arrest for the last six months and is likely to be booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act.

“Ashiq Hussain Narchoor provided all sorts of assistance to the pellet and bullet victims and the families of martyrs during the uprising,” one of his close associates told mediamen.

Earlier, the TeH leader has faced continued illegal detention for six years from 2004 to 2010 and intermittently afterwards for his active role in the ongoing freedom movement.
