Islamabad: Former Parliamentary Kashmir Committee Chairman and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called on the international community to address what he describes as India’s illegitimate occupation of Kashmir.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Rehman made these remarks on Kashmir Solidarity Day, emphasizing that India’s stance and refusal to comply with United Nations resolutions are hindering progress. He criticized the UN for failing to uphold its responsibilities concerning Kashmir’s right to self-determination.
Rehman highlighted that the UN has not taken substantial measures to enforce resolutions from 1948 and 1949 over the past seventy years. He urged the international community to react to India’s unlawful control over the region.
Further, Rehman underscored the significance of February 5 as a day dedicated to opposing oppression, advocating for justice, and supporting the freedom movement in Kashmir.
He questioned when the United Nations, founded on the principle of justice, would take action regarding Kashmir. He described India’s actions as the darkest chapter in history, affirming that the sacrifices of Kashmir’s martyrs would not be forgotten.
