Inspector General of Police Punjab directs Field Officers to intensify monitoring and checking at check-posts

Lahore, April 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Aftab Sultan has directed all the Field Officers to intensify monitoring and checking at all the check-posts set up in the provincial border regions to maintain law and order and to ward off any possible terror attempt in the province during the elections 2013.

In a circular issued to all the officers by the IGP, the officers are ordered to step up snap checking of vehicles and search of the motorists at all the border check posts, interchanges, and important bridges. All the SDPOs are directed to visit to the check posts in their respective areas on daily basis while the CPOs and DPOs are directed to visit the posts twice in a week.

The Punjab IGP also directed the police to make functional the CCTV cameras, arrange log-registers for the vehicles, ensure checking of ID cards of the passengers, and also closed down the link-roads in the deserted areas to keep a vigilant eye on the activities of the suspected persons.

Aftab Sultan also directed the district police officers to keep close liaison with the personnel of Punjab Rangers deployed on the check posts in their respective areas.

Meanwhile, on the request of the IGP for additional funds for security arrangement for the elections 2013, the Punjab government has released a total of Rs251.774 million funds. Out of the total allocated funds, Rs16 million would be spent on purchase of metal detectors, Rs4.5 million for iron fence, Rs58.5 million for vehicles on rent, Rs58.774 million for special force for election duties, Rs39 million for purchase of barriers and Rs75 million for diet charges.
