Islamabad, September 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized an impressive ceremony in honor of international scholar Brig. (Retd) Khwaja Tariq Mahmood to pay tribute to his literary services. Gen. (Retd) Abdul Majeed was the chief guest. MNA Maj (Retd) Tahir Iqbal, Khwala Babar Saleem, Qazi Akbar, Raja Mujahid Afzal, Malik Fida ur Rehman, Prof. Muhammad Khan, Dr. Ghazanfar Mehdi and many other literary personalities were present at the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, Gen. (Retd) Abdul Majeed paid rich tributes to the literary services of Brig. (Retd) Khwaja Tariq Mahmood. He said the literature produced by Khwaja Tariq should be preserved as it is a great asset for the country. He stressed upon the government to give Sitara-e-Imtiaz to Khwaja Tariq in recognition of his great services in the field of literature.
MNA Maj. (Retd) Tahir Iqbal said Brig. (Retd) Khwaja Tariq Mahmood is a great asset of the country as he earned great name for Pakistan not only at national, but also at international level. He assured that he would try his best to recognize the services of Khwaja Tariq at government level.
He said Turkey achieved good results by creating better awareness in its youth about its literary personalities and Pakistani youth should also be taught about country’s literature and literary personalities. It will promote peace and contribute positively to the growth of trade and industrial activities in the country.
In his welcome address, Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said Brig. (Retd) Khwaja Tariq Mahmood is a hero and a true ambassador of the country as he promoted Pakistani literature at international level by translating it into English language.
He said developed nations greatly benefited from their literary personalities and established different cultural centers to recognize their services. He said Pakistan should also give due recognition to those who contributed great services for promotion of our literature.
Brig. (Retd) Khwaja Tariq Mahmood in his address said that it was an honor for him to translate the works of renowned poets of sub-continent including Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Mirza Ghalib, Bahadur Shah Zafar, Ahmad Faraz, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Saher Ludhiani, Shakil Badyuni, Qatil Shafai and Josh Malih Abadi.
He said he also translated poetry of eight famous poetesses of the sub-continent including Amirtia Pretam, Ada Jaffri, Perveen Shakir etc. and also translated the literature of English poet Milton in four languages. He thanked President ICCI for organizing such an impressive ceremony in his honor which was a great motivation for him.
