Islamabad Gears Up for SCO Summit with Major Beautification and Security Enhancements

Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently chaired a meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to finalize preparations for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. The meeting focused on extensive beautification efforts, security measures, and infrastructural enhancements in the city, especially around the Red Zone and major VIP routes.

According to Press Information Department, Minister Naqvi instructed that the city be decorated with beautiful flowers and fancy lights, and directed the swift renovation of the Jinnah Convention Center, a key venue for the summit. He emphasized the importance of presenting Islamabad at its best, reflecting the government’s successful foreign policy initiatives through the meticulous organization of the SCO Summit.

Security arrangements were a critical part of the discussions. The minister ordered rigorous actions against illegal housing societies and stressed no leniency in operations against illegal constructions and encroachments. Further directives were issued to enhance coordination between Islamabad and Rawalpindi administrations to prevent dengue, including clearing potential breeding sites and increasing surveillance in affected areas.

Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, briefed on the progress of the preparations, ensuring that the summit would not only focus on international diplomacy but also showcase Islamabad’s enhanced urban aesthetics and readiness to host such high-profile events.
