Islamabad Implements Measures to Combat Pollen Allergy

Islamabad: The Prime Minister’s National Coordinator on Health, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Bharat, announced a series of initiatives to address pollen allergies in Islamabad. These measures include the phased removal of wild mulberry trees, identified as a significant source of allergies, and the planting of eco-friendly alternatives.

According to Press Information Department, Dr. Bharat stated that approximately 80,000 to 100,000 wild mulberry trees would be eliminated to curb allergy issues. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has already planted one million trees and plans to add 300,000 to 400,000 more. Additionally, paper mulberry trees are scheduled for complete eradication by mid-year.

Efforts to manage allergies extend to F-9 Park, where specific measures have been implemented, and a plan is in place to limit the sale of Parthenium plants, a known cause of respiratory allergies, at local flower shops. The Directorate of Municipal Administration has been alerted to enforce a ban on the use of these plants in floral arrangements. Dr. Bharat reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting public health and called for public support in these efforts.
