Italian Navy Carrier Strike Group Anchors in Karachi for Bilateral Exercises

Karachi: The Italian Navy Carrier Strike Group, featuring the aircraft carrier ITS CAVOUR and frigate ITS ALPINO, arrived in Karachi for a three-day visit, which will include a bilateral exercise with the Pakistan Navy.

According to Pakistan Navy, the visit began with a warm reception for the Italian vessels by senior officials of the Pakistan Navy and the Ambassador of Italy. Following their arrival, an Italian delegation led by Ambassador Marilina Armellin and Rear Admiral Stefano Barbieri, Capability Director of the Italian Defence General Staff, met with the Commander of the Pakistan Fleet, Rear Admiral Abdul Munib. The discussions focused on interoperability, future collaborations, and enhancing regional maritime security and defense cooperation.

The visit also featured tours and briefings highlighting military capabilities. Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi, Commander Karachi, was briefed aboard ITS CAVOUR about the aircraft carrier’s capabilities by Captain Francesco Fagnani. Additionally, a Defence Industries Exhibition was held on ITS ALPINO, showcasing the capabilities of Italian defense industries.

The visit concluded with a media briefing on ITS CAVOUR, where Italian and Pakistani naval leaders discussed the importance of interoperability and the Pakistan Navy’s role in regional maritime security.
