Jailed Peer Saifullah’s wife demands release of her husband

Srinagar, January 28, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Kaiser Bashir, wife of illegally detained APHC Hurriyat leader, Peer Saifullah, has demanded immediate and unconditional release of her ailing husband, illegally detained in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail. India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested Peer Saifullah, who has been diagnosed of brain tumour, along with seven other Hurriyat leaders in a fake case in July 2017.

Kaiser Bashir in a media interview in Srinagar said that on January 18, 2019 the health of Peer Saifullah deteriorated to the extent that he felt unconscious and fell down in the washroom in Tihar Jail. She said the news of her husband’s deteriorating health has shaken her and only has one desire – to see him home. She said her husband is on medication after getting operated for brain tumour.

Kaiser Bashir while recalling the moment when she received the call about the unconsciousness of Saifullah said that she immediately made a call to the relatives of the people lodged at Tihar Jail along with her husband to know about his health. She said that after falling in washroom, Peer Saifullah had hurt his back and was currently moving around on a wheelchair. “I don’t have means to travel to Delhi and I’m hardly able to make ends meet,” she added.

She said her ailing spouse is not getting any medical care in the jail. Despite his grave health condition, he was not shifted to any hospital but taken to a nearby dispensary, she deplored. If Saifullah’s deteriorating health was not enough for Kaiser to deal with, her only son, Faisal Bashir, a student of 7th class, was also not keeping well after his father’s arrest. As per the family, Faisal is showing symptoms of depression and his mother says he hardly talks with anyone nowadays.
