JKPM condemns curfew in Shopian, curbs on Hurriyet leaders

Srinagar, September 16, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement (JKPM), a constituent of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference, has strongly condemned the continued curfew in Shopian and other adjoining towns and restrictions on the movement of Hurriyet leadership.

The JKPM senior Vice Chairman, Mir Shahid Saleem, in a statement issued in Jammu said that the people of Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam were facing acute shortage of essential commodities including life saving medicines due to the restrictions.

“It has become a routine that after every innocent killing by Indian forces people are given a collective punishment for weeks to break their resolve to fight the heinous designs of the forces,” he added.

The JKPM leader also condemned the continued house arrests of Hurriyet leaders including the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan and Zafar Akbar Butt.

He said that almost entire leadership of Kashmir was put under house arrest to create a gap between the leaders and masses. “All these tactics are meant for prolonging illegal Indian occupation over Kashmir,” he said and vowed that India would never succeed in suppressing the liberation sentiment of the Kashmiris.
