Karachi Electric Supply Company signs accord with Philips to promote energy efficient lifestyle

Karachi, May, 03 2013 (PPI-OT): Karachi Electric Supply Company, in line with its Climate Change Policy, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Philips Pakistan aimed at formulating a joint strategic plan for promoting energy conservation and efficiency.

Nayyer Hussain, CEO of KESC, and Asad S. Jafar, Chairman and CEO of Philips signed the memorandum. In a message, Nayyer Hussain said that “the collaboration with Philips is one of our several efforts aimed at contributing towards sustainable development and creating an energy efficient lifestyle. We are confident that our continued hard work towards Climate Change would ultimately make a positive difference.”

“We believe that this collaboration with KESC will further strengthen our efforts towards creating a sustainable environment and raising awareness regarding energy efficiency. Philips has always taken the lead in initiatives aimed at improving the environment and providing people better opportunities for choosing energy efficient ‘green’ products. Leveraging our expertise and innovative product portfolio we aim to take this mission even further”, said Asad S. Jafar, Chairman and CEO, Philips Pakistan.

Both KESC and Philips also agreed to work in collaboration on various mutually agreeable business strategies to promote energy efficient lifestyles including joint marketing campaigns, product offering and endorsements and promotional offers.

Philips addresses this challenge through its green product portfolio, which is focused on improving energy and resource efficiency. Philips offers green solutions throughout, from energy saving lighting, medical equipment to house hold appliances.

KESC’s Climate Change Policy envisages adoption of balanced and responsible methods to reduce carbon emissions and ensure social and environmental gains. Under this holistic approach, KESC has been exploring various ways and means to aim at expanding its current generation portfolio by 15 percent through renewable energy and various energy efficiency initiatives over the next five years to mitigate climate change and reduce our carbon footprint.

KESC has also been promoting energy efficient lifestyles through advisory services to carry out power factor improvement projects and providing free energy audit service. Its Climate Change programs are aimed at encouraging the usage of energy efficient appliances and adaptation of efficient energy systems and building codes; awareness creation for adaptation of energy efficient lifestyle specially targeted towards the youth; cost sharing in the conversion of main municipal thoroughfare street lights and landmark monuments to LED and solar lights; and, incentive program for commercial markets to adopt Daylight Saving Program.
