Karachi Mayor Unveils New Road, Champions Citywide Upgrades

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the newly constructed Ghulam Ali Alana Road, marking the completion of a long-awaited infrastructure project. The road, which had been in disrepair for 15 years, has been reconstructed in honor of former Mayor Ghulam Ali Alana.

According to a statement by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the mayor highlighted the ongoing development initiatives led by the Pakistan People’s Party, aiming to enhance the city’s infrastructure, including water supply, roads, parks, and sewage systems. “This road is an example of our efforts,” Wahab remarked during the ceremony.

The 1.5-kilometer-long road project was completed within four months and cost Rs. 70 million. It includes new sidewalks, rainwater drainage pipes, curb stones, and improved road safety features like lane markings and cat eyes.

Mayor Wahab also announced a significant project valued at Rs. 12.4 billion to deliver 40 million gallons of water daily from the Hub Canal, and a Rs. 1.7 billion initiatives focusing on elevated pipelines in the Lyari River to mitigate water theft.

Further development projects are underway, including the restoration of roads and bridges such as Old Queens Road and Jinnah Bridge. These efforts aim to address longstanding issues faced by the city’s residents.

The mayor emphasized a commitment to maintaining the city’s cleanliness, particularly by removing inappropriate slogans and advertisements from walls. Efforts to clear encroachments, such as transforming Sangam Ground into a sports facility for youth, were also discussed.

The event saw attendance from various city officials and members of Ghulam Ali Alana’s family, who expressed their appreciation for the road’s dedication.
