Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator chairs meeting on Construction works of Shahabuddin Market and Car Parking Plaza

Karachi, April 29, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has directed to enhance the speed of construction works of Shahabudding Market and five-story Car Parking Plaza so that this project could complete soon and the old problem of parking vehicles in Saddar and nearby areas could resolve.

He said this while chairing a meeting held on construction works of Shahabuddin Market and Car Parking Plaza. On this occasion Sr. Director Transport and Communication Muhammad Athar, Chief Engineer Project, Superintendent Engineer and other officers were present. Sr. Director Transport and Communication gave a briefing and informed that the construction work of Shahabuddin Market and Car Parking Plaza was in final stage and would complete very soon. He informed that 438 shops and stalls from Shahabuddin Market were temporarily shifted in front of car parking plaza Saddar in 2009 so that development works could start.

He also informed that along with market a five-story parking plaza was also being built in this project where different types of vehicles could be parked easily. He said after the completion of initial phase shop keepers would be shifted on lower and ground floors gradually whereas 131 shops were built on ground floor which would be allotted through a draw and 157 shops on mezzanine and 157 shops on first floor were also built.

The facility of 12 to 18 feet wide corridors were also constructed in market whereas five floors were allocated for parking where 600 vehicles and hundreds of motorcycles could be parked. Phase-I would be completed with a cost of Rs735million.

Administrator Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi said that this was a marvellous and beneficial project in Saddar therefore this should be completed as soon as possible which would not only provide facilities to businessmen and visitors but also help reduce parking problem in this area. He also directed to implement Traffic Management System for this busy area to improve traffic flow and resolve traffic jam problem.

He said that Saddar was a central area of Karachi and this project was located behind Empress Market where business activities were underway the whole year and a good number of citizens come here for shopping therefore along with parking they should be provided with all facilities.
