Karachi Water Sewerage Board disconnects 6 connections at Munawar Bangash Nazimabad

Karachi, January 29, 2013 (PPI-OT): In an eight hour long operation against illegal hydrants mafia Karachi Water and Sewerage Board disconnected 6 connections of 4 inch diameter at Munawar Bangash Nazimabad No.2 on Tuesday 29th January. Five pumps and a tunnel was demolished whereas, FIR has been launched in the local police station.

According to the details, 6 connections of 4 inch diameter were disconnected, 5 pumps and tunnel illegally supplying water to hydrants were demolished. Moreover, Pumping Machinery, Electric Panel, Meter valve, motors and 1500 feet of pipe were confiscated. F.I.R against 8 members of water mafia was launched at the area police station.

On the directives of Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Misbahuddin Farid a special team lead by Chief Engineer WTM conducted this operation against illegal hydrants and water mafia. Chief Engineer WTM Anwar Saeed, Superintendent Engineer Asif Qadri, XEN Saleem Akhtar, Rao Aslam Khan of CIA, D.S.P Rustam Khan and area S.H.O Rashid Khan conducted the operation.

Water Board has requested SSP Central to establish a police post in the said area so that the mafia may not be able to establish their illegal hydrants again. Whereas, M.D KW and SB has strictly directed Chief Engineer WTM not to let the water stealing mafia operate from this area again.

He directed that a special team must be formulated to survey the areas from time to time and ensure that these illegal hydrants do not commence operation again.

In the second phase of drive against illegal hydrant mafias operations would be conducted throughout the city that would continue till the water mafia is brought down.
