Kashmir settlement vital for Pak, India cordial ties, peace

Srinagar, December 12, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior Hurriyet leader, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, has said that cordial relations between Pakistan and India and the durable peace in South Asia will remain a distant dream until the Kashmir dispute is settled in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations. Shabbir Ahmed Shah in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, maintained that New Delhi should understand that Kashmir was not a border dispute between Pakistan and India but an issue concerning the future of 15 million people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, should muster courage and fulfil the promises made by his predecessor, Jawaharlal Nehru, with the Kashmiri people of giving them their right to self-determination. Shabbir Shah reiterated that the lingering dispute could be settled through tripartite talks involving Islamabad, New Delhi and the genuine Kashmiri leadership in line with the relevant UN resolutions.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party in a statement in Srinagar said that the puppet authorities had kept Shabbir Ahmad Shah under house arrest or illegal detention for more than 180 days, this year. It said that the party Chairman was barred from offering Juma prayers 39 times and Eid prayers two times, during the current year.

The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, in a statement in Srinagar said that the Kashmiris would face every hardship and oppression but would never compromise on their freedom, dignity and honour. He was reacting to an assertion made by A S Dulat, the former Chief of Indian secret agency RAW.

Hurriyet leader, Zafar Akbar Butt, addressing people in different areas of Srinagar said that no power on earth could stop the Kashmiri people from achieving freedom from India. Meanwhile, Hurriyet leaders including Muhammad Yousuf Naqash and Bilal Siddiqui visited Nowpora area of Sopore and paid glowing tributes to a youth, Shakir Ahmed, who was recently martyred by Indian troops.

Complete shutdown was observed in Nowhatta, Sopore, Samboora, Pampore and Kakapora areas to protest against the blasphemous act of Hindu Maha Sabha leader, Kamlesh Tiwari. The Hindu leader had circulated some pamphlets containing remarks against the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Muslims in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
