Srinagar: Most places in the Kashmir Valley, located in the Indian-administered region of Jammu and Kashmir, are experiencing sub-zero temperatures as winter conditions intensify following recent snowfall in the higher altitudes.
According to Kashmir Media Service, temperatures in Srinagar and surrounding areas have remained below freezing for the second consecutive night, contributing to the chilly weather across the region.
The Kashmir Valley witnessed snowfall in its higher reaches last week, leading to a drop in temperatures. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, a slight rise from the previous night’s minus 0.7 degrees Celsius, yet still 1.1 degrees Celsius below the seasonal norm. Other areas, such as Qazigund, reported a low of minus 2 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam recorded the coldest temperature in the Valley at minus 3.2 degrees Celsius.
The popular Gulmarg ski resort registered a low of 0 degrees Celsius, with Kupwara experiencing temperatures of minus 0.9 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Kokernag saw temperatures above freezing, at 0.7 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department anticipates that these weather conditions will persist until November 23. By November 24, the forecast predicts cloudy skies with the possibility of light rain or snow, particularly in the higher regions of Kashmir.
