Key Legislative Bills Deferred During Fourth Meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior in Islamabad

Islamabad: The fourth meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior convened today under the chairmanship of Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, MNA, addressing a range of significant legislative bills and regional administrative issues. Key bills discussed included amendments to criminal law and citizenship statutes, with decisions deferred to future meetings.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the meeting kicked off with a recitation from the Holy Quran before moving into detailed discussions of several government bills. Notable among the deferred items were the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (Section 462O), and the Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The committee also postponed decisions on the Pakistan Coast Guard (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (Section 14A), and other legislative measures, including those addressing public order and acid crime.

Additional briefings covered administrative concerns such as the imposition of fines on unregistered vehicles, with plans to involve the Motorcar Dealers Association in further discussions. The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad updated the committee on the status of land records reconciliation between Rawalpindi and Islamabad, highlighting ongoing discrepancies that the committee urged to resolve within a week.

Moreover, the Capital Development Authority discussed issues related to unauthorized housing developments in Zone-III of Islamabad, receiving directions to halt operations pending further decisions. The Federal Investigation Agency provided updates on investigations into human smuggling and alleged fake degrees within the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council, emphasizing the urgency of these matters.

The meeting was attended by a broad array of members and senior officials from various government bodies, underscoring the session’s importance in shaping policy and addressing pressing national issues.
