Ranchi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has curtailed freedom of speech in India and is imprisoning those who criticize his administration.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Kharge, addressing a public meeting in Ormanjhi Ranchi, claimed that the Modi government is infringing on fundamental rights by intimidating those who speak out against its policies.
Kharge also criticized former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren for leaving the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, labeling him a traitor and suggesting that many individuals betray their supporters. He urged the people of Jharkhand to remain vigilant, warning that Modi might deceive them and transfer control of local resources such as water, forests, and land to industrialists.
In his address, Kharge noted Modi’s silence on issues concerning the oppression of Dalits, tribals, and minorities in the country. He also accused the BJP of undermining democratic processes by acquiring power in states where they did not win elections, citing Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa as examples. Furthermore, Kharge expressed concern over wealth inequality, asserting that a small percentage of the population controls a significant portion of the country’s wealth while half of the population holds minimal assets.
