Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomes decision on Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India

Lahore, May 21, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Thursday welcomed decision to put TAPI project on fast track and termed it a game changer and win-win situation for all stakeholders. In a statement issued here the LCCI President Ijaz A. Mumtaz said that the TAPI project is of great regional significance. He said that early execution of the project would help “energy-starved” Pakistan to overcome ongoing crisis that was hitting the industrial sector hard.

Ijaz A. Mumtaz said that it was a good omen that present regime was utilizing all options to fulfill the energy needs. He said that Prime Minister’s recent visit to Turkmenistan would also enhance cooperation and trade between the two countries.

He urged the government to remove all obstacles coming in the way of project as project has vital importance for the national economy in general and export-oriented industry in particular. He said that industrial growth would certainly go up when sufficient energy would be available to keep the industrial wheel moving.

He said that early execution of TAPI gas pipeline project would enhance productivity of export-based industry that would give a jumpstart to the country’s exports. He said that large scale manufacturing sector would be able to manage their export orders easily and earn much-needed foreign exchange for the country.

He said that this mega project could help Pakistan avert a growing energy crisis already causing electricity shortages to the country. He said that TAPI would be Pakistan’s largest development project. TAPI is expected to boost the economies of all the participating countries. Ijaz A. Mumtaz said that early completion of TAPI project would also give a very good message to the foreign investors.

The LCCI president said that TAPI project would not only help Pakistan to overcome ongoing energy crisis but would also promote political and economic interaction between Pakistan and Afghanistan who were the main stakeholders of this project. He said that TAPI project would not only reduce tension in South Asia but would also create employment and economic opportunities in the country.
