Law enforcers enjoy complete public support: Governor Sindh

Karachi, April 25, 2014 (PPI-OT): “The morale of law-enforcement agencies needs to remain high to achieve the desired results. These institutions are guarding the country’s borders with complete public support behind their back,” said Sindh governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan on Thursday.

Addressing participants of the command and staff college course at the Governor’s House, he said public should boost the morale of their protectors. “Unfortunately, in the past few years the law-enforcement agencies had become the main target of state’s enemies,” he said.

Replying to a question, the governor said everyone wanted peace in Karachi but it was prevented by four main factors which were terrorism, kidnapping for ransom, target killings and extortion.

According to him, members of banned outfits were behind most of these activities. He said after the bomb blast in Abbas Town which claimed around 50 lives in 2013, an operation had been launched to crack down on militants and had been quite successful.

The governor said strict security arrangements taken during the last general election can gauged by the fact that two suicide bombing attempts had been foiled by the law-enforcement agencies. He admitted that there were a number of threats to Karachi but said that effective strategies and strict security measures were helping to control the situation.

Answering another question, he said the prime minister had taken notice of the poor law and order situation which led to a targeted operation being launched in the city in September last year leading to a significant drop in the crime rate.
