Literary, intellectual sessions are source of enlightenment for societies: Jamil Ahmed Khan

Abu Dhabi, December 16, 2012 (PPI-OT): “Literary and intellectual sessions are source of enlightenment for societies which help to inculcate human values and ethics among the individuals. Such events are the best means to forge a cross-cultural dialogue for peace and best antidote to the various ills that plague our society including the scourge of extremism and hatred”, said Ambassador Jamil Ahmed Khan while addressing a literary gathering organized in Abu Dhabi in honour of Secretary General, All Pakistan Newspaper Distribution Federation and former Minister of State, Mr. Tikka Khan. The ceremony was attended by a large number of Pakistani expatriates including poets and intellectuals.

Ambassador Jamil said that poetry was originated in 6th century in the Arab world, however, the development of Urdu poetry owes a lot to legendary poets like Mir Taqi Mir, Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib, Dr. Allama Iqbal who will always be remembered for their ingenuity.

Talking about the current political situation in Pakistan, Ambassador Khan said that political talk shows on television are not the means to evaluate the situation of the country as they do not reflect the actual thinking of the people. He said that positive criticism is the key to success for any society.

“Pakistan is affluent in natural resources and plays a vital role in the region owing to its strategic geographical location. Pakistan is not only self sufficient in the sectors of Agriculture, dairy products, textile but also exports these items in large quantities. We should all work hard and play our role in building our nation like a true patriot”, he said.

Mr. Tikka khan, speaking at the occasion, said that positive journalism depicts the true picture of society. He remarked that respect of truth and public right to information are fundamental principles of journalism. Personal interest of a journalist should not undermine the accuracy of the news, nor should a journalist use personal difference to distort the image of others. He further said that benefit of the country should come first in the professional life of all the journalists.
