Mayor Murtaza Wahab Announces Inauguration of KMC Metropolitan Cup Football Tournament 2024.

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced the completion of all preparations for the first KMC Metropolitan Cup Football Tournament 2024, set to commence on November 10. A total of 24 teams will compete, including 23 teams from town administrations and one team representing KMC. The tournament’s champion will be awarded Rs 10 lakh and a trophy, while the second and third place teams will receive Rs 5 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh, respectively.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the event will be supervised by referees and technical staff approved by the international body of FIFA. The tournament also benefits from the consultation of former footballers and experts to ensure it meets high standards. Special kits have been distributed to participating teams, and continuous communication is maintained with them. Mayor Wahab emphasized the provision of necessary facilities for players and fans at the selected football grounds, with the Department of Culture and Sports actively involved in these efforts.

The Mayor highlighted the popularity of football in Karachi, noting that many national team players hail from the city, particularly from Lyari and Malir. These regions have produced world-class footballers, and the tournament aims to further utilize such talents. The KMC Metropolitan Cup Football Tournament 2024 is part of a broader initiative to promote various sports and engage youth in positive activities. Mayor Wahab expressed hope that the event will become a landmark tournament in Karachi’s history, showcasing emerging young talents.
