Media analyst of European Union Observation mission appreciates steps by Radio Pakistan for fair coverage of general elections

Islamabad, April 24, 2013 (PPI-OT): Media Analyst of European Union Election Observation Mission Inta Lase called on Director-General Radio Pakistan Murtaza Solangi in Islamabad and discussed matters relating to the coverage of Elections 2013 by the media with special reference to Radio Pakistan.

The Director-General informed the EU Media Analyst that Radio Pakistan has made elaborate arrangements for the coverage of upcoming general elections in the country.

He said Radio Pakistan is giving equitable and fair coverage to all the political parties and no negative programming is done. Murtaza Solangi said being the national broadcaster and run by the tax-payers’ money‚ Radio Pakistan will not succumb to any pressure in ensuring fair coverage of all stages of electoral process.

He said besides Election Commission’s Code of Conduct for Media‚ Radio Pakistan has its own Code of Conduct regarding general elections. He said strict action would be taken against any employee found violating the code of conduct.

He said 65 transmitting stations of Radio Pakistan are disseminating information in 33 languages everyday.

He assured full cooperation to the European Union Election Observation Mission in carrying out their mission. He said instructions would be issued to all networks of Radio Pakistan to fully cooperate with the Mission.

The Media Analyst of European Union Election Observation Mission appreciated the steps taken by Radio Pakistan for fair coverage of general elections.

On this occasion‚ she also inquired about overall security environment for journalists and Radio professionals and how they intend to address this challenge.
