Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain Leads Discussion on GMO Soybean Imports

Islamabad: Minister for Industries, Production and Food Security, Rana Tanveer Hussain, chaired a meeting focusing on the importation of genetically modified (GMO) soybean, asserting that there are no significant obstacles to these imports. However, some concerns have been raised by the Ministry of Climate Change, prompting a more cautious approach.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during the discussions, Minister Hussain announced the formation of a committee tasked with consulting the Ministry of Climate Change and other relevant stakeholders. This committee aims to address and resolve any reservations concerning the import of GMO soybeans, which are essential for various sectors within the country.

The move is part of a broader effort to ensure that the import policies align with environmental and health standards while supporting the nation’s food security and industrial needs.
