Islamabad:Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preventing terrorists from using safe havens in Afghanistan to launch attacks on Pakistan.
According to Radio Pakistan, speaking at a seminar in Islamabad, Tarar emphasized that Pakistan’s dedication to peace should not be mistaken for weakness. He cited United Nations and independent assessments, which estimate over 6,000 TTP terrorists in Afghanistan, with the total number of terrorists exceeding 20,000.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, the TTP has exploited Afghan territory for various activities, including recruitment and launching attacks against Pakistan. The 38th UN Monitoring Report noted the movement of nearly 2,000 TTP terrorists and their families from border regions to deeper areas within Afghanistan.
Tarar highlighted Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, stating that no other nation has lost more than 90,000 lives and suffered economic losses exceeding $100 billion. He described Pakistan as a global symbol of resistance against terrorism and a shield protecting the world from terrorists.
He also noted Pakistan’s recent role in mediating between the United States and Iran, underscoring the country’s genuine commitment to global peace. The efforts led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir have been widely recognized.
A positive development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was also mentioned, where changes now empower the province’s people to combat terrorism. Tarar praised their firmness and resolve in fighting this war.
