Minorities’ delegation calls on President Mamnoon Hussain

Islamabad, December 05, 2013 (PPI-OT): President Mamnoon Hussain Thursday said that the Minorities were equal citizens of the country and reiterated firm resolve of the present government to protect and uphold the rights and privileges of the minority community as enshrined in the Constitution and bring them into the mainstream of national life.

The President said this while speaking to a delegation of Minorities that called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr today. The Minorities delegation led by Mr. Isphanyar M. Bhandara, MNA included among others Mr. Ashok Kumar Kapoor, Sardar Mastan Singh, Mr. Chana Lal, Mr. Ashok Chand, Mr. Rattan Lal, Mr. Phool Ram, Mr. Om Perkash, Mr. Anil Ajmal and Mr. Peter Jan Bheel.

The President said that rights and privileges of minorities were enshrined in Pakistan’s Constitution that gives equal rights to all, without any consideration of religion, race or creed.

Highlighting the important role and sacrifices of minorities for nation building, the President said that Minorities community was an asset of the country and assured that the Government would undertake all out efforts to safeguard the fundamental rights, life, liberty and property of the minorities in Pakistan.

The President on the occasion emphasized on promoting inter- faith harmony and said that in the prevailing situation there was even greater need for inter faith understanding and harmony to promote tolerance and Coexistence.

He called upon the religious scholars of all sects and creeds, Ulemas and all concerned to play their role in promoting harmony and love among all faiths and religions. He stated that no religion preaches or teaches intolerance and extremism and shedding blood of innocent people.

Mr. Isphanyar M. Bhandara, MNA thanked the President for meeting the delegation and appreciated his keen interest in the welfare of the minorities and the various measures and steps being taken by the present government to safeguard and promote the rights of minority community in the country. The delegation assured that minority community will continue playing its proactive and positive role in the development of the country.
