Mirwaiz calls for shutdown, Eidgah march on May 21

Srinagar, May 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has called for complete shutdown and march towards Eidgah in Srinagar on May 21 to commemorate the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent liberation leaders, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone as well as the martyrs of Hawal.

The APHC Chairman addressing a gathering in Srinagar said that the unparalleled sacrifices rendered by the Kashmiris for their inalienable right to self-determination would not be allowed to go waste. He maintained that on the martyrdom anniversary of Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, the Kashmiris would reaffirm their resolve to take the ongoing movement to its logical end.

He said that on the day a resolution would be passed for return of mortal remains of Kashmiri martyr, Muhammad Afzal Guru, who was hanged and buried in New Delhi’s Tihar jail on February 9. “We won’t let sacrifices of martyrs go in vain. I appeal people to observe complete shutdown on May 21 and march towards Eidgah to pass a resolution on return of mortal remains of Shaheed Muhammad Afzal Guru,” he said. The Mirwaiz deplored that despite passing of decades the Kashmir dispute was still unresolved.

The APHC Chairman led funeral prayers in absentia for Pakistani prisoner, Sanaullah, who was attacked in Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu and passed away at a hospital in Chandigarh on Thursday. He urged Pakistan and India to release each other’s prisoners to improve their relations. He also demanded shifting of Kashmiri detainees lodged in various jails in India to the Kashmir Valley.

The Mirwaiz also announced various programmes to observe Martyrdom Week beginning from May 16. On May 16 recitation of Holy Quran would be held at the APHC head office and district headquarters followed by the special prayers for martyrs. Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid would also organize a Husn-e-Qirat competition at Mirwaiz Manzil. On May 17, a camp for free medical check-up and distribution of free medicines among the needy would be held at Jamia Masjid.

On May 18 Anjuman-e-Nusrat-ul-Islam would hold a seminar ‘Religion in building Personality’ at the auditorium of Islamia High School, Rajouri Kadal. On the same day Anjuman-e-Nusrat-ul-Islam Trust Islamabad would hold a special meeting to pay tributes to Moulvi Farooq and other martyrs. A special publication dedicated to the martyred leader would also be issued on the same day.
