Srinagar: Senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, currently under house arrest, has extended greetings to the global Muslim community for Milad-un-Nabi, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), while voicing strong criticism against the local administration for altering the observance date of the holiday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq conveyed his message from Srinagar, emphasizing the transformative impact of the Prophet’s teachings on human life and calling on Muslims to apply these principles to address contemporary challenges. His message coincides with widespread confusion caused by the regional government’s decision to shift the official holiday from its traditional date, September 17, to a day earlier.
Mirwaiz criticized this change as showing disregard for the sentiments of the Muslim community, asserting that the correct date for Milad-un-Nabi this year is indeed September 17, aligning with the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal.
