Mirwaiz seeks OIC role to stop civilian killings in IOK

Srinagar, April 17, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has sought the intervention by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to stop the civilian killings at the hands of Indian forces in Kashmir. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is under house arrest, sent a letter to the OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani and thanked the organization for its support to Kashmir movement and also apprised him of the latest situation in the region.

“It appears that the authorities have waged a war against the unarmed civilian population of Kashmir. Only in the past few days five unarmed civilians were killed and dozens injured in the firing by the forces on the demonstrators who were protesting against the reign of terror unleashed by the Indian army, paramilitary and police forces on the people of Kashmir.

Repeated imposition of curfew and severe restrictions on the movement of the people has virtually turned the entire Kashmir Valley into a large prison. Almost all resistance leaders have either been placed under house confinement or detained in police stations. The situation is very grim and needs immediate attention to protect the population of Kashmir,” Mirwaiz wrote.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq criticized New Delhi’s decision of sending more troops to Kashmir. “New Delhi has decided to send more troops to prevent further loss of lives,” he said questioning whether presence of half a million already in Kashmir not enough to Kill Kashmiris.
