Modi Regime Invokes PSA and UAPA on Protesters in Kishtwar.

Srinagar: In occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Modi-led Indian regime has invoked the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against five Kashmiris in Kishtwar district following protests against the exploitation of local water resources by the India-based National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).

According to Kashmir Media Service, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti expressed concern over the application of these laws, condemning them as an excessive response to peaceful dissent. She called on the newly elected setup to take immediate action to prevent the arbitrary use of such laws against civilians.

In a social media post, Mufti stated, “People across J&K for the last 5 years have been booked under draconian laws like PSA & UAPA on trivial charges… This is shocking because people have high expectations from the newly elected government.” She criticized the use of these stringent laws for “trivial charges” and urged the new setup to investigate to prevent arbitrary application against citizens voicing genuine concerns.

Authorities defended the application of PSA, stating that the protesting youth posed a threat to public order. Additionally, the District Magistrate Kishtwar has ordered the monitoring of 22 other locals for allegedly obstructing key Indian projects in the area.
