Srinagar: In a continuation of property seizures under draconian laws, the Modi-led Indian government has seized another Kashmiri civilian’s property in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police confiscated property worth Rs 10 million belonging to a resident, Amir Rashid Lone, in the Bomai area of Sopore. The property was seized under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), with authorities alleging Lone’s involvement in pro-freedom activities.
Just a day earlier, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) seized a property under UAPA, taking over the home of Srinagar resident Manzoor Ahmed Lango in the Zaldagar area on similar charges.
Since the revocation of occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August 2019, the Modi regime has accelerated its campaign to seize properties of Kashmiris.
These property seizures are seen by critics as part of a broader plan to alter the region’s demography by making local Kashmiris strangers in their own land while allotting the confiscated properties to non-Kashmiris.
